Stop Smoking

Do you ask yourself:

How do I stop smoking?
Have you already quit numerous times or are you nervous at what's ahead if you do?

Will hypnosis help me quit this habit?
If you haven't already, this is a good time to read the pages on Hypnosis and The Subconscious Mind to get a basic understanding of hypnosis and how it can help you.

If you are still smoking, you need to ask yourself, “Am I ready to quit the smoking habit”?

There are two factors that will determine your success:
1.You must have the desire to give up your habit.
2.You must have the confidence to know that you can do it.

And, maybe, one more question: Am I willing to quit smoking?

You're looking for a way to quit smoking. You've had it! Will hypnosis help? You are going to stop smoking. But how? Perhaps already your doctor has spoken to you, you've added up the cost, and you've decided "That's it!". No more. You want a life of health and freedom from smoking. You are going to quit smoking. It's time to stop smoking. But how?

Did you know that...
Hypnosis has been proven the most effective means of quitting smoking.

In 1968 The American Journal of Clinical Hypnotherapy published a report by a doctor using hypnosis on 1000 smokers. After 18 months 94% were still non-smokers. Yes, that's right, you become a non-smoker.

In 1992 a large research project into stop smoking methods was undertaken by The University of Iowa. This comparison of over 600 scientific studies placed hypnosis as the most effective means of smoking cessation available.

People have been amazed at how easy it can be to quit smoking when they use hypnotherapy for smoking cessation. Some say: "It is as if I had never smoked."

Once you have made the decision to stop smoking you are well on your way to success. Changes can occur easily and effortlessly. You can stop smoking without weight gain, irritability or cravings.

Have you noticed before that when you try to quit smoking it's almost as if a part of you is sabotaging all your efforts. One part of you wants to quit...one part puts up a fight.

People tell me it's as if there is a battle going on inside...there's that one part that wants good health, hates the smell, wants to please their family, wants to stop wasting money, wants to stop smoking...and one part just won't let go. You've noticed, haven't you, how that one part can make life SO miserable...you might have become grouchy, hard to live with, even depressed. Some people report a sense of loss. Some people feel so uncomfortable, no matter how hard they try, they go back to smoking...perhaps, you have, too.

So then you've gone from feeling frustrated while you were trying to quit smoking...to feeling frustrated because you went back to smoking. The downward spiral.

Willpower..it just doesn't work. Willpower fluctuates, as we all know. Monday morning we are strongly motivated; by Tuesday afternoon, we've given in. Willpower is strangely lacking in Power!

But...Hypnosis puts the Power in Willpower.

Why does Hypnosis work?

Smoking is a habit. Habits reside largely in the subconscious part of our mind. It's hard to reach that part of ourselves. Willpower alone can't reach it. Hypnosis can. Hypnosis puts the Power in Willpower.

Of course it’s possible to get motivated to quit, yet fail for a variety of reasons.

Quitting smoking can be an uncomfortable experience, and smoking has given you something to do for a long time. Consequently, it is only natural to think about the ups and downs of stopping smoking.

Many who try to quit (without hypnotherapy), fail to do so and have to try several times before they succeed. Should you have any doubts about giving up smoking, put it off until you are determined to quit smoking.

Until we address our inner needs, it's pretty hard to rely on willpower.

THE RISKS

Let's think about the risks. The Whys of why you are right here, right now. Probably a big Why of your determination to quit smoking.

If you smoke:

  • You will be twelve times more likely to die from lung cancer.
  • You will be ten times more likely to die from some form of lung disease.
  • You will be ten times more likely to die from cancer of the larynx.
  • You will be six times more likely to die of heart disease.
  • You will be twice as likely to die of a stroke.

By quitting now, you can reduce the likelihood of:

  • cancer,
  • lung disease,
  • heart disease including stroke,
  • premature aging of skin and hair,
  • chronic fatigue,
  • low stamina,
  • low self-esteem,
  • anxiety
NOTE: Yes, it's good to know the "bad" stuff. But it's best not to focus on the negatives. Remember, your attention is where you focus; that's where your thoughts , energy and actions are.

Set your goals, visualize the NEW, FREE NON-SMOKER YOU... and let that be your focus.

Let the thoughts of all the health benefits, fitness and freedom be what drives you.

Imagine how good you'll feel!

In your mind, keep all those thoughts about how you'll spend your new found "wealth"!

That's another often overlooked benefit: the amount of money saved by not buying cigarettes.

Let me explain:

If you smoke one pack of cigarettes a day at $9.00 per pack (price in my area), you spend $3285 per year.

If your habit has continued for a period of 20 years you will have spent an incredible $65,700!

If you smoke two packs a day for that same period of time, you will spend $131,400!

Got anything else you or your family can use that money for?

Put those visualisations in your mind, too! Buy yourself a big piggybank - saving the money you would have spent can be a major motivator.

SELF CONFIDENCE

Let’s talk for a moment about your self confidence about quitting smoking.
More specifically, about how you can help yourself to be successful?

Our thoughts are very powerful. Many of us are run by our negative thoughts. Sometimes people think that they have no control over the thoughts in their minds. They give in to the negative messages, and, in effect, let them run their lives.

But we do have control. We can change our thoughts to be the thoughts we want to have. Instead of thinking about how difficult it will be to quit - change your mind.

If you want to quit, fill your mind with all the positive reasons you want to quit, think of all the times you have been successful and let those feelings give you strength. Any Hypnosis Stop Smoking program will also boost your self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as, reduce your stress levels.

Are you willing to adjust your self-talk? If you continue to tell yourself that "this is too hard to do"..."it's a terrible addiction"...etc. do you think you will ever quit?

One of the ways to boost your Self Confidence is to come to an understanding of why you smoke and what triggers your urges. When you can get a clear picture of what's happening each time you feel the need to smoke, then you are well on your way to figuring out what you CAN DO to get through those moments. Though the craving for something to smoke may seem to last forever, it actually passes fairly quickly.

You need to be able to answer the following questions:

What can you do to reduce the desire to smoke every time it hits you, and what will you do until the urge passes?

You will need to deal with the reasons that you smoke now. What kind of satisfaction does smoking give you - physical, mental, or emotional?

You may want to take the Smoker's Quiz. This can help you to gain some insight into the reasons why you smoke.

Ask yourself: Why did I start smoking?

Was it:

  • to alleviate stress or to solve some of the problems in my life
  • peer pressures and social acceptance issues are important factors
  • family history, parental modeling of smoking behavior
  • wanting to appear mature, self-confident and independent
  • personality with tendencies toward risk taking behaviors
  • or some other reasons

Many people actually quit smoking in one session. To improve your chances of quitting smoking and to make it easier for yourself, it's a good idea to create an action plan. it's just a fact of life, that if we want to accomplish something, we need to plan for it. Some people may be able to just go cold turkey and quit smoking in one day, others need a gradual decrease, cutting back on a few cigarettes a day over a period of time. Creating a written plan is the best way to work this longer term plan out.

There are many Stop Smoking programs and products on the market today that offer support to help smokers quit. In fact, what they really do is help smokers become ex-smokers.

The way they work is to help a smoker resist - you know what I mean- grit your teeth and just get through it. Not too pleasant!

The main differences with using Hypnosis to Stop Smoking are:

1. You become a non-smoker, not an ex-smoker, because:

2. Hypnosis removes the desires.

Let's look at the first one:

1. You become a non-smoker.

Ex-smokers are simply people who "resist" the urge to smoke. They are consiously working at NOT smoking, at resisting the desire to smoke. They've made a consious decision and they're sticking with it- as long and as well as they can. One slip and they're a "smoker" again. You see, because they only stopped smoking at a concious level, smoking is still an option. So it's pretty easy to decieve themselves that "just one won't hurt".

2. Non-smoker's, on the other hand, have NO desire to smoke. That's right, the desire to smoke is gone! Non-smokers don't think about smoking. Working at the subconcious level, the desire to smoke is removed.

The smoker is free of the desire to smoke. It's not something they think about. A non-smoker, even if at some later date had a cigarette, wouldn't think of themselves as a smoker. They'd simply be a person, who for some silly reason, smoked something.

But that event is unlikely, as thousands can attest to. Non-smokers often can't even imagine why they smoked in the first place. So if you are going to make the effort to quit smoking, why not DO IT RIGHT.

Do it without anxiety, cravings, irratability, or weight gain.

Do you want to stop smoking and live a healthier life? Why wait? You can stop!
